Kim Walpole photos A Total Loss (Posted 5/18/2009 11:57 am)
The weekend lake house owned by Brenda Shields, of Tehuacana, was a complete loss after fire gutted it on Thursday morning. The call came in at 9:30 a.m. to the Mexia Fire Department after Mrs. Shields' niece, Lori, discovered smoke billowing out of the front door. Mrs. Shields had not been in residence at the lake house since before the flood. Lori had been visiting her mother, who lived next door to the empty house. Mexia Fire Department, Coolidge Fire Department and the Lake Mexia Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call, but even though they worked diligently, the end result was a total loss. The only thing left standing was the brick fire place. The fire was located in Burr Oak B-1 Subdivision, across from Camp Rip at Lake Mexia.
