Mexia News Staff Report

Members of the Mexia Garden Club showed their skills in flower design and table decor at the group’s 56th Standard Flower Show this past Saturday.
The event was held at the Mexia High School library, and virtually every club member took part. The theme was “Flowers and Flix,” with each design entry using a movie category or actual movie title as a guide.
“The idea was to interpret the title of a movie with a floral design,” said club president Gayle Beene.
Each entry had little cards indicating either the movie category, like “Romance” or “Comedy,” or had the movie Title, such as “The Addams Family” or “Singing in the Rain.”
There are about 34 members in the club, 20 of whom are active. The show had 24 design entries and more than 90 horticulture entries.
