The track and field season has officially come to a close with both the Blackcats and Lady Cats track teams finishing well in state track running events held Saturday evening at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.
Broderick Reeves finished third for Mexia in the 100 Meter Dash with a time of 10.67, the same time he ran to qualify for the state meet.
The Lady Cats Ashley Johnson came home with the silver medal as the second place finisher in the 400 Meter Dash, finishing with a time of 56.96.
The boy’s 4 x 100 Meter Relay race was one of the closest races of the evening as six teams ran under 42 seconds.
Mexia Coach Frankie Smith mentioned last week that he expected Saturday night’s race to be a photo finish and by the times ran, it was close to fruition.
The top six crossed the finish line with times of 41.24, 41.25, 41.42, 41.65, 41.69 and 41.71.
The Blackcats team of Arik Weathers, Tyler Porter, Kendric Mack and Reeves, finished the event in the sixth spot with a time of 41.71.
The Lady Cats finished fifth in both the 4 x 100 Meter Relay and the 4 x 200 Meter Relay.
