Tax holiday for appliances this weekend
If your old refrigerator or washing machine is driving your electric bill into the stratosphere, you might want to buy energy-efficient replacements this weekend and save money at the same time.
Refrigerators, dishwashers, clothes washers, ceiling fans and a few other products with the EPA Energy Star certification are exempt from state and local sales taxes this weekend as part of the annual Texas Energy Star Sales Tax Holiday, the state comptroller’s office said.
Eligible products with the Energy Star logo will be exempt from sales taxes from Saturday, May 25 through Monday, May 27. The Energy Star logo means a product meets federal energy-efficiency guidelines.
The tax-free holiday also applies to Internet sales of eligible products paid for during the weekend, and scheduled for delivery to the purchaser.
