The academic and athletic careers of two members of the Lady Cats state championship basketball team will continue not on the court, but on the track.
Ariel Ballard and Ashley Johnson were honored Friday morning as fellow classmates, teachers, coaches, friends and family gathered in the Mexia High School library to show their support for the two outstanding student-athletes as each signed letters of intent to run track at the college level.
Ballard signed a letter of intent to run at Tarleton State University on a partial scholarship.
Johnson, who received a partial scholarship to attend Houston Baptist University, was also a member of the 4 x 200 Meter Relay team that competed at state and she also finished in second place at the same meet in the Girls 400 Meter Dash.
