The 2013 Mexia Blackcat Baseball Camp will begin Monday, June 24, at the Mexia Blackcat Baseball Field and is being coordinated by Head Coach Matthew Matus.
The camp will be broken down into two groups.
• Camp One – June 24-26 (8:30-11 a.m., Monday through Wednesday) is designed for players entering grades 1-5 and will teach youngsters the proper hitting, fielding and throwing mechanics. The cost is $60 per player, which covers tuition for three days and includes the cost of instructors and complimentary gifts and prizes. Camp staff will provide structured competitions, each geared toward a specific skill and their goal is to vary the competitions to cover many different skills and knowledge of the game. Players will have the opportunity to win prizes while competing in the competitions.
• Camp Two – June 24-27 (12:30-3:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday) will be for players entering grades six through ninth and the cost is $85. This will be a skills evaluation camp and players will be evaluated on fielding, throwing and hitting. Matus stated that instructors for this camp will concentrate on each specific skill. Players will be divided by positions to receive position specific coaching in the field and on the final day of camp there will be an intersquad showcase as camp staff will divide the players into two equal teams and play a live game.
Every player attending the camp (who pre-registers) will go home with a keepsake and each will receive a 2013 camp T-shirt.
Both camps are open to any player, locally or from surrounding communities, who wants to improve their baseball skill set.
