Mexia’s ready for fireworks and fun with the city’s big Independence Day festivities just around the corner.
The 33rd annual “Boomin’ On The Fourth” festival next Thursday starts off with a bang – pun intended – as running and walking enthusiasts meet at the City Park Pavilion for the annual Firecracker 5K run/1 mile walk.
Registration begins at 7 a.m. and the fee is $20, which includes a souvenir T-shirt while supplies last.
The pavilion is off South Bonham Street and across from Parkview Regional Hospital.
There will be overall, first, second and third place finishers in each running group, based on 5-year age differences starting with age 14 and under and continuing through age 60 plus. In the walking group, winners are the first five male and first five female finishers. For information call the Mexia Chamber of Commerce at 254-562-5569.
