Mexia 7-on-7 headed to state tourney

As the Mexia 7-on-7 football team prepares for their first ever trip to the state tournament, the brackets have been released for pool play set to begin on Thursday, July 11 for Division II at Southwest Williamson County Regional Park in Leander.
Mexia will join three other teams, Anna, Brownwood and Houston Episcopal in Division II’s Pool O.
All 64 qualifying teams will play three games on Thursday and the top two teams in each pool will advance to the championship round Friday, while the remaining two teams get set to do battle in the consolation bracket.
Mexia will start out with Houston Episcopal at 2 p.m., followed by Brownwood at 4 p.m. and wrapping up the day on Field A against Anna at 6 p.m.
Mexia’s rival, Fairfield, also qualified for the tournament and will be pitted against Edna, Melissa and Stephenville in DII’s Pool H.
Fairfield takes on Edna at 1 p.m. on Thursday. The next two games take place on Field B with Stephenville at 3 p.m. and Melissa at 5 p.m.
