Contestants in Mexia’s Firecracker 5K Run take off Thursday morning from the start line on Bonham Street beside Hughes City Park. The run was part of the city’s Boomin’ on the 4th Independence Day celebration. Top overall winners in both male and female categories were the same as last year: Eric Ayala, of Groesbeck, and Ashley Rhodes, of Wortham.
