Briar Shane Scruggs

Briar Shane Scruggs, 19, of Streetman, passed away Aug. 7, 2013 in Jal, New Mexico. Funeral services will be Monday, Aug. 12, at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church Wortham with Rev. Justin Colquette officiating. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Kirvin.

Visitation with the family present will be Sunday evening, Aug. 11, from 5 to 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church Wortham.
Briar was born Sept. 19, 1993 in Corsicana. He graduated Wortham High School in 2012. He was Homecoming King, had a distinguished high school football career and was a mentor for a kids-without-fathers program. He was a member of Christian FCA and a Little League coach. Briar loved to play his harmonica, loved to hunt and was a true country boy through and through and was known as “Bubba” to many. His motto/favorite verse was Philippians 4:13 NKJV, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Briar is survived by his fiancee, Cassidy Campbell of Streetman; daughter, Aubree Scruggs of Streetman; mother and stepfather, Melisa Hogan Sikes and Josh of Streetman; father and stepmother, Shane Scruggs and Lisa of Richland; stepdad, Heath McDaniel; sisters, Josey Scruggs of Streetman and Haylee Sikes of Flinn; brothers, Lucas Gilbert of Richland, Wyatt Scruggs of Richland and Cason Sikes of Flinn; grandparents, Debbie Watson of Rural Shade, Ed Scruggs of Eureka, Juanita Hogan of Kirvin, Jerry Hogan of Kirvin and Paul and Mary Black of Soddy Daisy, Tenn.; uncles and aunts, James and Chris Haley of Wortham, Joshua and Lacie Black of Hixson, Tenn., Adam and Kristen Barnes of Soddy Daisy, Tenn., Johnny and Cindy Goodnight of Corsicana, James and Tiffany Hogan, Jason and Tammy Cochran, Chuck and Jerri “Baby” Richards and Robert and Rocquel Hogan; cousins, Kala, Kelsie and Kole Haley, Owen and Harper Barnes, Justin Goodnight, John and Kristi Goodnight and family, Drake Pendegrass, Kent Bonner, Brooke and Hagen Hogan, Spring, Coy and Richard Hogan and Hannah, Peyton and Paisley Hogan; numerous great aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and friends including his best friends, Micah McCord and cousin, Christopher McDaniel and Trey Hogan.

Serving as pallbearers will be James Michael Hogan, Robert Allen Hogan, Micah McCord, Christopher McDaniel, Ben Knight and Kyle Goerner. Honorary pallbearers will be Tyler Castlow, Ian Winsor, Larry Bennett, Cooper Warren, Drake Pendegrass, Joe McDaniel and Trey Hogan.
