Courthouse to get new phones, elevator repair

Limestone County commissioners court voted at Monday’s meeting to have the Courthouse phone system replaced at the same time the Internet cabling is replaced. The court was also apprised of repairs to the elevator.
IT Specialist William Lane recommended to the court upgrading the phone service wiring at the same time the Courthouse’s Internet lines are rewired so the old telephone wiring can be pulled out at the same time the old Internet wiring is removed.
“It was (IT Specialist William Lane’s) recommendation that we go ahead and for efficiency purposes upgrade the phone system to a voice-over-Internet protocol phone system while we re-do the wiring,” County Judge Daniel Burkeen said. “That will enable them to pull out all the old telephone wiring, which we won’t need anymore and then integrate the phone system into the new cabling. Then we should never ever have to do this again. This will take advantage of the latest technology and add a lot of features that we don’t have now; and simplify the cabling. We will basically have one set of cabling going around the Courthouse.”
The system and work would be provided by Star Voice and Data Systems, of Dallas, and cost $32,664.29.
Commissioner Bobby Forrest asked Lane if he had checked other companies for cheaper prices, though he noted the total cost was under the amount that would require competitive bids.
