Limestone County commissioners court continues to deal with bills and maintenance issues with the county’s private prison, currently empty. Limestone County Detention Center.

At the court’s meeting of Aug. 26, the commissioners considered a bid of $6,080 the county received from Allen & Shivers to repair a problem with erosion in the recreation yard.

Commissioner Jerry Allen said he and Terry Don Shivers, of Allen & Shivers, had examined the problem in person; and after conferring, they suggest using skirting around the eroding area and filling it in with soil then planting Bermuda or rye grass on top of the dirt to keep it in place.

“It needs something; it’s getting worse and worse,” LCDC administrator Mike Sutton said, adding that he could get some county inmates to help apply the grass seed.
