DA asks public’s help keeping Moons jailed
By Brenda Sommer
Limestone County Attorney Roy DeFriend is asking for the public’s help to keep two convicted rapists in prison.
The Moon brothers – Frank and Vernon – were convicted of aggravated sexual assault and sentenced to 99 years in prison for a March 18, 1984 rape that took place outside Mexia.
Their victim was, at the time, a high school student.
The brothers followed her from a Mexia convenience store, used flashing red lights to get her to stop, dragged from her car, took her to a remote area and the brothers and a third man – Robert Wayne Spikes – each raped her. She was left barely clothed on FM 39 and after a while stopped a passing car and was rescued.
