Despite big loss, playoff hopes alive

Last Friday night was not the type of game plan Mexia head coach Lamonte Chambers and the rest of the Blackcats coaching staff had in mind going up against the No. 6 ranked Fairfield Eagles (3-0, 9-0).
But in their defense, when a team goes up against another team that is clearly “in the zone” it really doesn’t matter what type of plan you have and no matter how hard you play, sometimes teams like that are virtually unstoppable.
And right now, the Eagles are that team at this point in District 19-3A.
Mexia literally had a chance early to stand toe-to-toe with the Eagles after Fairfield went up 7-0 with 9:12 to play in the first quarter. The Blackcats took the kickoff up near the 35 yard line to begin their first series of the game.
