Dorothy York, resident of Rowlett and formerly of Groes­­beck, passed away at home on Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, at the age of 82.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1005 N. Red River St. in Mexia at 2 p.m.
Dorothy was born Sept. 21, 1931, in Numidia, Pa., to David and Hazel Fetterman Sr.
She was a baptized Jehovah’s Witness. She loved to entertain family and friends. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, she was known for her famous cabbage rolls. She had worked as a sales clerk for Wall’s Factory Outlet in Groesbeck and at one time had her own dress shop. She was also a caregiver for many years.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, David and Hazel Fetterman Sr.; brother David “Sonny” Fetterman Jr. and one grandson, Robert “Robbie” E. Weiss III, all of Numidia, Pa.
She is survived by her husband, Alvie A. York, of Rowlett; sons Robert E. Weiss Jr., of Pennsylvania, Timothy Weiss, of Alaska, Jeffery Weiss, of Pennsylvania, Scott York, of Robinson, Daniel York, of Midlothian, Ray York and Jerry York, both of Houston, Billie Jack York, of Pennsylvania, Alvie York Jr. and Michael York, both of Nevada; daughters Christi Weiss Lukus, of Pennsylvania, Cynthia Weiss Baxter, of Rowlett, Cheryl York Scruggs, of Teague, Melissa York Cheney, of Victoria, and Rosemary York Armstrong, of California; 30 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Betty Shaffer, Susie Welkom and Nancy Burba, all of Pennsylvania.
Dorothy will also be missed by numerous neph­ews, nieces, cousins and many dear friends.
