This could be another incredible year for the Mexia Blackcats basketball program and this time it could come from the boy’s side of the court.

Coach Tony Leamon has been more than excited at the prospect of this year’s team making a much longer playoff run and has expressed his excitement on more than one occasion throughout the football season.

The team returns all of its starters from last year’s team that finished the 2012-13 season with a record of 20-14 and went two deep in the playoffs, falling to Navasota by 10 points in the area round.

Returning players include 6’ 1” Sr. guard Kaylon Watson, last year’s 19-3A MVP, who averaged 11.8 points per game and 8.5 rebounds per game last season. LaVictor McKnight (6’ 4” Sr. forward and 19-3A defensive MVP) averaged 8.6 ppg and 6.8 rpg and led the team in blocked shots with 50.
