Mexia High School girls basketball coach Randy Barger is still basking in the warmth of the Ladycats’ 3-A state championship win last year. It seems not a week goes by, he says, that he doesn’t hear from two or three of his former players, either by phone or text, saying they still can’t believe it really happened.

But as all coaches know, it’s what is happening this season that fans want to know about, so Barger spoke on that subject to the Mexia Lions Club Tuesday, especially since he lost 11 players to graduation, and people want an idea how the season will go.
Barger is using the three returning players as a core to start the rebuilding process.

One of those returning is Na’Tesha “T” Owens, who was a freshman last year yet was named Most Valuable Player in the state championship game.
