Israel Vasquez, 75, of Mexia, passed away Nov. 19, 2013, at his home.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 25, at Blair-Stubbs Chapel, with the Rev. Nettali Guzman officiating. Interment will follow in the Mexia Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be 6-8 p.m., Sunday at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home.
Israel was born Jan. 6, 1938, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Jose and Christina Morales Vasquez. He worked in the dry cleaning business in New York and California before retiring and moving to Mexia.
Israel was a kind, loving man who loved serving people. His wife and children were the love of his life. He was happiest when his home was filled with children; regardless of whose children they were. He also enjoyed music, board games, coloring, movies and sports including, baseball, wrestling and football.
He was a member of Arca de Refugio Church in Mexia. Israel’s wife and children are proud of the wonderful legacy he left.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son Nathan Vasquez; sisters Elizabeth Vasquez and Barbara Alicea; and brother, Nathan Vasquez.
Israel is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Isabel Vasquez, of Mexia; children Nancy Denise Vasquez, Linda Christine Gutierrez and Israel Vasquez Jr. all of Seattle, Daniel Vasquez, of Laguna Nigel, Calif., Deborah Vasquez, of Mexia, and Shirley Dupra of Riverside, Calif.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sister Martha Vasquez.
