Mexia’s Food for Families food drive Friday brought in much food, though far short of its goal thanks to exceptionally cold weather.

Marjorie Parks, who directed the event in Mexia, said around mid-morning that she was pleased with the turnout and donations.

“We’re about a fourth of the way there,” she said at 10 a.m., but she was well aware that the miserable weather would cut down on their totals for the drive.

The temperature was 39 degrees when the drive began at 6 a.m. and fell several more degrees throughout the day. Mist and drizzle also fell throughout the day, made worse by windy conditions.
