Ike Jones scored seven points and LaVictor McKnight added four in the final period of Tuesday night’s basketball game to help the Blackcats secure a 70-59 win over the Palestine Westwood Panthers.

Jones finished the night with 20 points, while McKnight scored six overall and led the Blackcats in rebounds with 11.
Curk Harris had another strong outing, collecting 23 points in the game. Harris helped Mexia to an 18-17 first quarter lead by knocking down three, three-pointers.

The Blackcats led at the half 32-31 as the Panthers stayed close until the third period and that’s when Jones and Harris combined for 15 points to give Mexia a 56-49 lead at the close.

Kaylon Watson made his debut of the season, scoring a field goal and a pair of free throws and Damian Matthews collected six points in the contest.

Danny Huckaby didn’t score a basket, but it might have been due to the fact that he was busy dishing out assists. Huckaby led Mexia in the game with 10 assists and had two steals on the defensive side.

Mexia (3-0) will be on the road again after the holidays as they travel to Bellmead to take on the La Vega Pirates.
