The Mexia Blackcats are off to a 4-0 start this season after notching number four Tuesday night in Bellmead with a sound 82-56 win over the La Vega Pirates.
Curk Harris scored nine of his 16 points in the Blackcats 24 point fourth quarter. Mexia led by 12 going into the final frame and were up by eight points going into the lockerroom at the half.
Mexia’s defense held the Pirates to only 11 points in the first period of play, although the Blackcat offense was a little sluggish starting off, but did lead at the end of the quarter by four, 15-11.
The second quarter was a different story as both teams seem to trade baskets, with scoring opening up a lot more.
