Blackcats defeat MCH, remain undefeated

For the last two games, senior forward Damian Matthews has been on fire, combining for 37 points and 24 rebounds in the Blackcat wins over La Vega and Methodist Children’s Home, which has helped Mexia to a 5-0 start so far this season.
Matthews latest spark came against Methodist Children’s Home in the first – and the team’s last game of the Lorena Tournament, which has been canceled due to the winter weather that has hit the area – game of tournament play in Lorena when he poured in 18 points and grabbed 14 rebounds (7 offensive and 7 defensive) as the Blackcats beat the Bulldogs, 82-43.
Mexia took a 17-point lead, 25-8, after the first period of play and increased it to 27 going into halftime.
Coach Tony Leamon was able to rest his starters during the third period, in which the Blackcats forged ahead some more with a 56-25 advantage going into the final quarter.
