Ladycats lose one, win one

It was another tough outing for the Mexia Ladycats as they fell victim to the undefeated Melissa Cardinals Thursday afternoon at the Fairfield Invitational Basketball Tournament, 79-37.
The Ladycats shots didn’t seem to want to fall in and the rebounds went straight into the hands of Melissa defenders nearly every time throughout the game.
Mexia turnovers, coupled by the Cardinals fastbreak opportunities were the key factors in the loss.
Mexia was down at the half, 46-18, but came out of the locker room scoring a quick basket to hit the 20 point mark, but then the drought surfaced again until Taylor Porter put together back-to-back scores with 2:14 left in the third period, followed by Brianna Forge’s assist to Akasha Anderson a minute later. Forge added a three-pointer at the close of the period, but Melissa still held on to a 61-29 lead.
