More preparations were made at the Limestone County commissioners court’s Jan. 13 meeting for spring elections: city of Mexia, Mexia Independent School District, and primaries for both Democrat and Republican parties. At the same meeting, county employees and Crime Stoppers were recognized for their work.

Mexia City Secretary Christi Shivers appeared before the court to discuss and approve a request by Mexia to lease county election equipment for its May 10 general election. County Clerk Peggy Beck confirmed the contract was the standard one used, and the motion passed.

Also at the meeting, the court approved a contract with Mexia ISD to hold their May 10 election. Deputy County Clerk Jennifer Johnson told the court the contract was standard and the same one they have used each year.

“We actually conduct their election,” she said. “We provide their equipment, we reserve their polling places, the workers; it’s completely conducted by the county.”
