DPS chase nets stolen truck, three arrests
By Roxanne McKnight
A high-speed chase that raced through a residential area of Mexia Friday night ended with three arrested and a stolen truck recovered.
The incident started just before 10:15 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, when Department of Public Safety Trooper Donnie Carter was on routine patrol several miles west of Mexia. He spotted a white Chevrolet pickup truck on U.S. 84 that had been stolen earlier in Hill County. Carter tried to make a traffic stop, but instead of stopping, the driver sped away.
Carter pursued the truck, with speeds rising to more than 90 mph, according to Trooper Harpin Myers, a DPS public information officer.
When the truck came into Mexia, the driver turned south on Hwy. 14, quickly leading Carter and a Mexia Police officer past the airport and crossing into northbound traffic several times, according to Myers. The truck then made a U-turn and went north on Hwy. 14.
