After the smoke cleared and the fans exited the gym, a big smile shined on Coach Tony Leamon’s face after his No. 19 ranked Blackcats team combined for 60 rebounds, 22 assists, 22 steals and eight blocked shots and a point total over 100 to defeat the Groesbeck Goats Friday evening, 106-32.
“The game plan was to get better at what we do,” Leamon said. “Execute our system and get better offensively and defensively, work on our sets and pick up our intensity.”
Intense it was as Mexia (22-4, 7-1) kept the defensive pressure on three-fourths of the game and used the final period to work more on offensive sets and get the ball into the hands of reserves so they could keep in the flow of the offense.
Mexia opened the game with a 28-2 run that’s impart to the stifling defensive pressure displayed by the Blackcats.
At the half, Mexia led by 46, 55-9, and by the end of the third they would increase their lead to 66.
