An ice storm caused school closings, utility failures and nerve-wracking drives for Mexia-area drivers Monday morning, but hard freezes should be gone for the rest of the week.
Mexia ISD on Sunday sent an announcement it would delay school opening by two hours the next day, but around 7:30 a.m. Monday morning, classes were canceled for the day.
There were reports of power outages in the Tehuacana area, but not in the city of Mexia, although some fallen branches were being removed from residential roadways Monday morning.
Internet provided by Northland Cable failed Monday morning, a problem the company said was caused by electrical loss.
