Council OKs tax abatements on second vote
By Brenda Sommer
City Council agreed on their second look at the issue to grant tax abatements to a new company after a lively half-hour City Council meeting Tuesday.
The move, which will cost the city approximately $47,340 in tax revenue over five years, was approved in a 3-2-1 vote
At a March 4 called meeting, Council agreed unanimously to grant a $150,000 forgivable loan to Rogers Manufacturing Corp., but balked at allowing a second request to have taxes forgiven, voting 3-2 to deny the request.
Rogers will be making trusses in a building on Industrial Boulevard it has agreed to buy from Carry-On trailers. That project will cost $2.3 million and employ 21 people with an annual payroll of $600,000.
