Funeral services for Willliam Ray "Pokey" Graves will be held Saturday, May 17, at 2:30 p.m. at the Church of Christ, 203 S. Ellis in Groesbeck. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, May 16, at Pearly Gates Funeral Home in Mexia. Eulogist will be Pastor Charles Cashaw. Burial will be in Shady Grove Cemetery in the Doyle community.
William Ray Graves was born Feb. 7, 1956 in Limestone County, the ninth child born to Katie Ruth Graves and Sherman Graves and Willie Mae Cook.
Graves confessed in Christ at an early age, attending church at The Web Chapel Primitive Baptist Church and later the Andrew Chapel Primitive Baptist Church.
Graves graduated from Groesbeck High School where he excelled in football and track. After high school he joined the U.S. Navy, where he served for four years, earning an honorable discharge. In 1980 he married Joyce Ann Jackson and to this union three children were born.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Katie Ruth Graves and Sherman Graves Sr.; and two brothers, Wilmer Earl Graves, and Clarance "Pete" Graves.
Ray leaves in loving memory his wife, Joyce Ann Graves; two sons, Brent Wayne Jackson and Michael Ray Graves; one daughter, Danielle Marie Graves, all of Groesbeck; five brothers, Timothy W. Forge, Michael A. Graves, Sherman l. Graves, of Groesbeck, Kerry Cook, of Killeen, and Marvin Graves, of Dallas; seven sisters, Karrie (Edward) Wiley, Jeanette Forge, Dorothy N. (Harvey) Brooks, all of Groesbeck, Gloria Graves, Marilyn Graves, and Geneva (Don) Graves, of Waco, and Shirley Graves of Corsicana; one grandson, Jamarya Hall; step-parents Joyce (Billy) Sheppard and Willie Jackson; three aunts, Peggy Forge, Fannie B. Randall and Rozetta Ray, all of Groesbeck; three special friends, Gary (Gabby) Masters, Dwayne (Boo) Forge and Jackie Boy Nealy; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
