Mexia qualifies for state 7-on-7 tourney

Early morning the day after graduation ceremonies is probably not the ideal time to try and qualify for the Texas State 7-on-7 Tournament, but none the less the Blackcats 7-on-7 team rose to the occasion and went undefeated (3-0-1) at the Robinson qualifying tournament on Saturday to earn a spot in state tournament.
This marks the second straight year Mexia has earned a spot in the state tournament.
Groesbeck was the other
Mexia started out against one of their district foes, Fairfield, and ended up in a shootout. Curk Harris’ late game interception in the end zone, taking the ball right out of the Fairfield receiver’s hands, kept the Eagles from taking a touchdown advantage thus preserving the 24-24 tie.
