Confederate Reunion Grounds State Historic Site invites the public to bring their lawn chairs and picnic basket to participate in a Confederate Reunion Picnic Day this Saturday.
The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 14, and admission is free.
“The Confederate veterans historically held a Picnic Day in late spring at the Joe Johnston Camp 94 to plan for the upcoming annual reunion held on the full moon of July or August,” said Dixie Hoover, site manager. “We will gather around and beneath the historic 1893 Dance Pavilion built by the veterans to picnic and enjoy the natural beauty of the site just as they did over 100 years ago.
At least 110 Model A Fords (1928 – 1931) are expected to tour through the site in the morning as part of the 51st Model A Ford Texas Tour 2014. The vehicles and their drivers will stop for layovers through noon for the public to view and visit with their drivers.
