Loyd E. 'Shorty' Jackson
Loyd E. “Shorty” Jackson died June 18, 2014 in San Antonio, where he had resided since 2003.
The Mexia native graduated from Mexia High School.
He lived in the Pasadena-Deer Park area for more than 50 years, working for Shell Oil Company and being active in Memorial Baptist Church and South Main Baptist Church.
He was raised in Mexia, served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and attended the University of Houston.
His wife of 62 years, Reba, preceded him in death in 2009.
He is survived by his daughter, Melissa, and her husband, Craig Bird, of San Antonio; son, Rev. Loyd E. Jackson Jr. and his wife, Candy, of Kansas City; grandsons, Coby Bird and family of Fort Worth and Brant Bird and his family of Pleasanton; granddaughters, Courtney Stolfus and her family and Amanda Jackson, all of Kansas City; and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to the Reba Jackson Scholarship Fund at Baptist University of the Americas, 8019 S. Pan Am Expressway, San Antonio, TX 78224
Services are 3 p.m. Monday, June 23 at Grand View Funeral Home with visitation at 2 p.m. Melissa Bird officiated, assisted by Rev. Jackson.
