Mexia residents who enjoy Independence Day are invited to the Mexia Area Chamber of Commerce’s Boomin’ on the Fourth celebration next Friday, July 4, where they will see traditional events along with a few new twists.
One new feature this year is a live concert, from 8 p.m. to midnight by Classie Ballou and his Wrecking Crew, who will perform at the pavilion at Mexia City Park, which is across South Bonham Street from Parkview Regional Hospital. The leader of the Waco-based band is described as a Creole rocker from south Louisiana, and the music he and his band perform – much of it original – as a merging of zydeco, swamp pop, Latin-themed jazz, and rhythm and blues, with a horn section that keeps people hopping to its hot beat.
But that’s for the night time.
