Mexia City Council voted Tuesday night to cut off water to the city of Wortham in 30 days if that town doesn’t sign its contract renewal, and gave final approval to swap buildings with a local bank.
After a closed executive session to discuss “legal matters,” the Council resumed their July 15 regular monthly meeting in open session. In a motion made by Laura Rothrock, the Council voted unanimously to direct City Manager Larry Brown to write the city of Wortham and let them know their water service will be terminated 30 days from July 16 unless their water contract with Mexia is signed and returned.
Brown said the city of Mexia has asked Wortham to sign a standard renewal of its contract to receive treated water from Mexia since the contract was first presented to that town’s Council in May.
“We’ve asked them to sign it, and they’ve refused,” Brown said.
