Mexia Varsity Boys at State Tournament

The Mexia Hoopers (next-year returning eligible varsity boys basketball team) will leave Saturday morning for the Summer High School State Basketball Tournament.
The team competed in the regional state qualifiertournament held in Mexia June 21-22. Mexia competed against teams from Crockett, Corsicana, Lorena and other high schools. Mexia won three games to advance to the championship game against 5A Corsicana. In the championship game, Mexia played well by having the lead several times and only being down by 3 at halftime to Corsicana.
In the second half Corsicana manage to get the lead and beat Mexia in the end. With the loss, Mexia finished second, but since Corsicana was qualified as being in the big school division, Mexia still finished first in the small school division.
The state tournament begins this Friday, July 25 in Grapevine, up near Dallas. The Mexia team will play Saturday after the brackets come out on Wednesday. There will be 35 teams from all across the state of Texas coming to try and win the first-ever Summer State Boys Basketball High School Championship, which is similar to the 7-on-7 Football State Tournament last week.
