Bulldogs take second in state teen baseball tourney

The Wortham Bulldogs made an impressive run at the Texas Teen-age Association of Baseball's High School Eligible State Tournament in Buffalo the weekend of July 18-20, ending up second out of 23 teams.
The team was made up of six Bulldogs: Rudy Miller, Trent Williams, Jordan Lansford, Ethan McCoslin, Kalob Bowden and Devon Colquette; two Mexia Blackcats: Shelby Hileman and Hunter Morton; two Groesbeck Goats: Chad Feeney and Hogan Russell; and one Teague Lion, Luke Calame. The team was coached by Tracy Lansford, Mike Williams and Brandon Lansford.
Rains Thursday altered the tournament format from pool play to a double elimination bracket that was held Saturday in Palestine, Leon, Centerville and two brackets in Buffalo. Each town sent one team directly to the final four that was played that Sunday afternoon in Buffalo.
The Bulldogs started off the weekend defeating the Rice Bulldogs 16-1. Wortham then defeated the Fairfield Texas Knights 3-1 in the second game of the day and defeated the Knights again 5-3 in the nightcap game, to clinch their bracket for a 10 a.m. Sunday morning game against the hometown Buffalo Bison. The Bulldogs ended the Bison's run with a 3-1 victory to move on to the final four.
