Steve Allen Hicks Sr.
Steve Allen Hicks Sr., of Mexia, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2014, at the Manor Healthcare Residence in Mexia. He was 71.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Groesbeck Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Benny Horn officiating. Burial will follow in Lost Prairie Cemetery.
Sons and grandsons will be pallbearers: Steve Hicks III, Steve Hicks Jr., Ski Hicks, William Hicks, William Hicks Jr., and Jason Hicks. Stanley Hicks will be an honorary pallbearer.
Steve was born on Dec. 14, 1942 in Waco to Marvin Hicks and Inez Smith Hicks. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1968 through 1969, and was awarded a Bronze Star for bravery.
Steve was united in marriage with Judy Kay Killingsworth in 1967, and they made their home in Wortham at one time and later in Mexia. She passed away in 2003. Steve was employed by Mexia Independent School District in the maintenance department until his health problems resulted in retirement.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Judy; and all his four brothers and three sisters.
He is survived by his children, Steve A. Hicks Jr. and wife, Barbara, of Groesbeck; Ski A. Hicks and wife, Annette, of Corsicana; Stanley A. Hicks of Henderson; William A. Hicks and wife, Mary, of Bardwell; and Jason L. Hicks, of Teague; six grandsons, three granddaughters, two great-grandsons, and seven great-granddaughters.
