Valeressa Hobbs West died July 23, 2014 at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco.
Funeral services for Valeressa will be held Wednesday July 30, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 203 N. Canton St. in Mexia. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday July 29, at Pearly Gates Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sandy Creek Cemetery. Rev. Tyrell Hobbs, eulogist; Rev. Tristan Hobbs, officiating.
Valeressa West was born to Lee Milton Hobbs and Lee Ellen Gamble Hobbs on June 13, 1961. Valeressa accepted Christ at an early age. She was a member of Greater Little Zion Baptist Church, and served in the kitchen.
Valeressa met and married the love of her life, Lewis West. To this union, four children were born. She graduated from Mexia High School in 1980. Valeressa worked many years as a cook for Mexia Junior High School and Teague Nursing Home. She also worked at Mexia State School.
She never met a stranger. Valeressa greeted every one with a smile. She will be missed dearly by her family, friends and every one who knew her.
Valeressa was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis West; her father, Lee Milton Hobbs; son, Synotheressa Hobbs, sister, Dorothy Lee Hobbs, and brother, Stanley Hobbs.
Those who will cherish her memory most are her mother, Lee Ellen Hobbs; sons, Symotheressa (Anquenetta) Hobbs, of Waco, Chris (Amanda) West, of Mexia, Chad West, of Mexia, and Kenneth Banks, who was also called her son; sisters, Katie Moseley, of Austin, Helen Ann Johnson, of Dallas, Teressa (Jimmy) West, of Waco, Diana (Ellis) Hobbs, of Mexia, Diane Hobbs, of Mexia, and Sherry West, of Mexia; brothers, Lee Milton Jr. (Verna) Hobbs, of Groesbeck, Robert Hobbs, of Mexia, and Freddie Joe Moseley, of Austin; grandchildren, Synotheressa, Kemoche, Chris, Symotheressa Jr., Tim, Monchieyeveon, Abriana, Shamiya, Sheneyah, Morganne, Meaganne, Chrislyn, Iveshian and Nicole; three nieces she raised as her daughters, Latisha (Dewayne) Cooper, Kescha Hobbs and Melissah Hobbs, all of Mexia; a true and special friend, Julius Masters; and a host of other relatives and friends.
