Bond election deferred to May
By Mike Eddleman
The Mexia ISD Board of Trustees took the advice of the facilities committee Wednesday, choosing to delay a potential bond election until May of next year, rather than call one in November.
None of the board members commented on the decision during the meeting. The consensus among committee members and Superintendent Sharon Ross was that more time would be needed to sell the public on a bond election than was available if it were called for November.
The new timetable means the board will have to call an election by late February for a May vote.
Even with the decision to postpone an election, Ross continued to emphasize the immediate facilities needs in the district. When referencing most of the work to be done, the district has labeled it as deferred maintenance, but Ross wanted to be sure everyone had an idea of what those items were and how much the upgrades and repairs were needed.
