Mexia ISD trustees considered, but ultimately declined, to reorganize the board during a special called meeting Feb. 3.
In the past, reorganization has been held immediately after trustee elections, which are held in May.
Reorganizing refers to who trustees elect as board president, vice president and secretary, roles currently held by Kim Williams, Ron Fowler and Rachel Hernandez, respectively.
When the agenda item on reorganization (placed on the agenda by two unnamed trustees) came up before the board, Fowler noted the board has, in the past, waited until after trustee elections to select new officers.
Trustee Jackie Craig then said she’d rather not discuss the matter in open session. The school’s attorney, present for another agenda item, told the board they could consider the matter in closed executive session.
