Paula M. Phillips

Services for Paula M. Phillips will be held Saturday, Sept. 28, at 11 a.m. at Groesbeck Church of Christ, in Groesbeck, with Brother Cliff Foxx, pastor, officiating and Brother Richard Williams as eulogist. Burial will follow at the Lone Star Cemetery, also in Groesbeck.

Paula was born May 12, 1962.

She passed away at her residence in Webster on Sept. 22, 2013, at age 51.

Dorsey Keats Funeral Home is in charge of the services for Paula M. Phillips.

Kenneth Edward Trotter

Kenneth Edward Trotter peacefully passed away Sept. 21, 2013, in Houston, surrounded by his loving family. Ken was born March 25, 1941, in Mexia, to Edward B. and Marjorie Jones Trotter. He was married for 54 years to, and is survived by, his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Sandra Arlene Romain Trotter.

Ken grew up in Tehuacana and graduated from Mexia High School in May 1959. He married Sandra at the First Methodist Church of Tehuacana on July 17, 1959. He then attended Sam Houston State Teachers College in Huntsville, and graduated from there in January 1963 with a bachelor’s degree in agriculture, a commission as a second lieutenant in the Army, and a baby girl, Kimberly Anne.

Orville ‘Red’ Timberlake

Orville “Red” Timberlake, 87, passed away Sept. 20, 2013, in Fort Worth. Graveside services were held Sunday, Sept. 22, in the Mexia Cemetery with Chaplain Paul Reedy and the Rev. Todd Tanner officiating.

Red was born Oct. 9, 1925, in Mexia, to George Washington and Cora Mae Graham Timberlake. He worked for Beene Motor Sales, and formerly Ferguson’s Chevrolet, for 32 years. Then he owned and operated Timberlake Paint & Body Shop from1983 until he retired in 2005. Red was an avid RVer and member of the Thousand Trails Club in Lake Whitney, one of his favorite locations. He and Rosie toured several states during their travels together; they also shared a love for dancing. Red also served his country in the Navy during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister Vernice Timberlake.

Orville ‘Red’ Timberlake

Orville “Red” Timberlake, 87, passed away Sept. 20, 2013, in Ft. Worth. Services are pending at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home.

He is survived by his wife, Rosie Timberlake, of Ft. Worth; children, Sharon Wilson and husband Johnny, of Groesbeck, Rona Stanford and husband Robert, of Ft. Worth, and Orville Ray “Bubba” Timberlake and wife Teresa, of Temple; and a number of grandchildren.

LeaAnn Hudson Ambler

LeaAnn Hudson Ambler was born April 17, 1955, in Marlin. She spent her early years in Deer Park and Arlington.

LeaAnn passed away Sept. 14, 2013, at her home in Plano. She was the daughter of Marilyn Harter Hudson, from Marlin, and George Raymond Hudson, from Thornton. LeaAnn graduated from Sam Houston High School in Arlington, and attended UTA in Arlington.

She was predeceased by her parents; her grandparents, Lilias and Jimmy Harter, and Mabel and Arnold Jackson, who were from Marlin.

LeaAnn is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Linda Kay Hudson Parma and Craig Parma; niece Lauren Ann Parma, of Plano; and her aunt and uncle, Kay Harter Evans and Carl Evans, of Reagan.

Billy Joe Thompson

Billy Joe Thompson, 78, of Mexia, passed away Sept. 16, 2013, at Mexia LTC. Funeral services will be Thursday, Sept. 19, at 10 a.m. at Porter Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Wright officiating.

Interment will follow at Lost Prairie Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be Wednesday evening 6-8 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home.

Billy Joe was born May 13, 1935, in Personville, to Lloyd Byron Thompson Sr. and Lillian Easterling Thompson. He will be remembered by Mexia residents riding his bicycle all over town visiting with many, including the children at the Methodist Preschool, Kiddieland Day Care, and Bob Wright at the News office and everyone at Porter Funeral Home.

He always looked forward to Bob giving him a newspaper when he stopped by the News office to visit with him and picking up pens and calendars at Porter Funeral Home to give to his friends and family.

Shelton Heggins

The angelic hosts came for Shelton Heggins on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, in Methodist Hospital of Dallas, among loving and devoted family. A viewing will be held Friday, Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. at Moore’s Angelic Funeral Home, 406 Monroe St. in Teague.

Funeral services for Mr. Heggins, 66, will be held Saturday, Sept. 21, at 11 a.m at All Faith Chapel, Mexia State Supported Living Center, Chapel Drive in Mexia. The Rev. S.M. Wright II, of People’s Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, will be officiating.
Mr. Heggins was born Feb. 16, 1947 in Jewett, to the parentage of Genie Heggins and Vessie Heggins Clark.

He received his education from Woodland High School in the Woodland community. He pursued a career in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Shelton accepted Christ at an early age. He attended various churches throughout his military career. He later became a member of the People’s Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, where he served as an elder.

Billy Joe Thompson

Funeral services for Billy Joe Thompson, 78, of Mexia, are pending at Porter Funeral Home.

Mr. Thompson passed away on Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, at Mexia LTC nursing and rehabilitation facility.

Among survivors are his sister, Annie Kate Pevehouse, of Lost Prairie.

Funeral services for Mr. Keeton will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, at First United Methodist Church, 201 N. Mount St. in Fairfield. Interment will take place at the Hopewell Cemetery in Fairfield.

James Wendell McIlveen

It is with profound sadness that the family of James Wendell McIlveen conveys his passing from this life on Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, in Houston.

James, 69, was the son of the late Milford and Eva Lois McIlveen. The family will receive guests for viewing from 10 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, at First United Methodist Church, 201 N. Mount St. in Fairfield, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 11 a.m.
