James Claudie Allsup

James Claudie Allsup, 93, of Mexia, began his eternal rest on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 24, at 10 a.m. at Porter Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. James Rineker and the Rev. Chris Nickleberry officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Point Enterprise Cemetery. Family visitation will be held on Friday evening, 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Allsup was born on Sept. 10, 1919, in Payne Springs, to Henry V. and Mary Granthom Allsup. He enlisted in the Army in 1944 and was among the third wave in the storming of Utah Beach in the Invasion of Normandy in June 1944. He was wounded on July 4, 1944.

Frances Juanita Wilson

Frances Juanita Wilson, of Groesbeck, passed away on Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at the Groesbeck LTC, at age 91.
Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. on Thursday, Aug. 22, at the Church of Christ in Groesbeck. Brother Richard Williams of the Groesbeck Church of Christ and Brother Benny Lucus of the Shiloh Church of Christ will officiate, and burial will follow in Hogan Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Danny Saling, Paul Wilson, Brandon Wilson, Brandon Nugent, Keith Easter and Skip Spurlock.

Frances was born March 7, 1922, to James Henry Hudson and Bertha Edie (Dickey) Hudson at Big Hill. She started school at Big Hill and graduated from Thornton High School. Frances was united in marriage with Vestle Edward Wilson on April 4, 1941, at the home of Brother Malcolm Smith. They farmed with her parents at Big Hill for awhile, then lived some years at Ben Hur, and later moved to Thornton, to farm and ranch and raise their family.

Mary Alice Cooper Hatcher

The angelic hosts came for Mary Alice Cooper Hatcher, 61, on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, at the Fairview Healthcare Center in Fairfield, among loving family and devoted friends.

A viewing will be held Friday, Aug. 16 at Moore’s Angelic Funeral Home, 406 Monroe St. in Teague, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. during the wake service.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Aug. 17, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 303 South Mount St. in Fairfield. Rev. Darrell Houston, pastor of St. Luke and Mt. Vernon United Methodist Churches, Houston, is officiating and Bishop Sam Cumby, pastor of Behind the Veil in Fairfield, and will serve as eulogist. Interment will take place at Fairfield Baptist Cemetery in Fairfield.

Mary Alice Cooper Hatcher was born on Jan. 24, 1952 in Fairfield. She was the second child born to Frank and Annie Lee Turner Cooper.

Her parents and oldest brother, Joe Frank Cooper, preceded her in death.

William Eddie Potillo

The angelic hosts came for William Eddie Potillo, 57, on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at his residence in Fairfield, among loving family and devoted friends.

A memorial service for Mr. Potillo will be held Saturday, Aug. 17, at 11 a.m. at Moore’s Angelic Funeral Home Chapel, 406 Monrore St. in Teague. The Rev. Obry Earl Hatcher will official.

William Eddie was the third child of Matthew and Annette Potillo, and was born Sept. 5, 1955, in Orlando, Fla. He grew up in Fairfield, where he attended Dogan High School.

Eddie was baptized in the Fairfield Missionary Baptist Church, in Fairfield.

William Eddie and Cynthia Johnson were married in Fairfield.

His employment career included being custodian at The Dallas Market Center and at Parkland Hospital, in Dallas.
Eddie’s interest were reading, baseball and basketball, and being with his children, family and friends.

He will be remembered most for his sharp wit and his sense of humor.

Willis Boyd Walpole

Willis Boyd Walpole, 78, of Mexia passed away Aug. 14, 2013 in Mineola.

Visitation with the family will be 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at Blair-Stubbs Chapel with Rev. Bill Wright Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Mexia Cemetery.

Boyd was born Feb. 19, 1935 in Tehuacana, to Jetson Harold and Esma Cora Harrison Walpole. He worked for many years as an insurance salesman and maintenance supervisor for Southern Traditions Furniture Company.

Cecil ‘Tiny’ Hileman

Cecil “Tiny” Hileman, 83 of Burlington, died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13 at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron. Burial followed in the Powers Chapel Cemetery near Rosebud with full military honors. Visitation was Monday, Aug. 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home home.

Mr. Hileman was born Jan. 19, 1930 in Goose Creek, to Joe and Odie (Davis) Hileman.

He married Carolyn Rothe on Oct. 29, 1977. Tiny retired from the U.S. Air Force after serving in the Korean Conflict.

He owned Tiny’s Drive In, in Rosebud, from 1969 until 1985. He also retired from Farm Bureau Insurance after 22 years of service.
His son Shane preceded him in death in 1994.

He was also preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Briar Shane Scruggs

Briar Shane Scruggs, 19, of Streetman, passed away Aug. 7, 2013 in Jal, New Mexico. Funeral services will be Monday, Aug. 12, at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church Wortham with Rev. Justin Colquette officiating. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Kirvin.

Visitation with the family present will be Sunday evening, Aug. 11, from 5 to 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church Wortham.
Briar was born Sept. 19, 1993 in Corsicana. He graduated Wortham High School in 2012. He was Homecoming King, had a distinguished high school football career and was a mentor for a kids-without-fathers program. He was a member of Christian FCA and a Little League coach. Briar loved to play his harmonica, loved to hunt and was a true country boy through and through and was known as “Bubba” to many. His motto/favorite verse was Philippians 4:13 NKJV, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Sinclair O. ‘Sonny’ Thomas Jr.

Funeral services for Sinclair Thomas, 64, were held Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the Sardis P. B. Church, 1021 E. Palestine St. in Mexia. Interment took place at Brown Chapel Cemetery in Butler.

The angelic hosts came for him at the Teague Nursing Home on July 28, 2013 among loving family and devoted friends.
Sinclair O. “Sonny” Thoma, Jr. was born Sept. 30, 1948 in Dallas, to the parentage of Sinclair Thomas Sr. and Rosie Mae Johnson Thomas. The family moved to Los Angeles, Calif., where he attended the public schools.

He met and married Beulah Washington in California and to this union, three sons were born.

Sonny retired as a truck driver from Bekins Van Lines and Martin Transportation Co., and later moved back to Mexia where he lived until his death.

His favorite pastimes were baseball, watching television and spending time driving his truck.

Lee Edward “Horss Baby” Lewis

Funeral services for Mr. Lee Edward Lewis, known to most of his family and friends as Horss Baby, will be Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Greater Haynes Memorial C.O.G.I.C., 601 N. Denton St. in Mexia. The Elder Michael Davis will officiate and the Rev. John Delley, of Faith Tabernacle C.O.G.I.C., Dallas will beeulogist. Visitation will be Aug. 9, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Pearly Gates Funeral Home, 827 Hwy. 171 in Mexia.

Mr. Lewis made his transition from this earthly home to a better one on Aug. 1, 2013 at his home.

He was born in in 1946 in Vernon to the parentage of Milton Leo Lewis and Arthenia Palmer Lewis, both now deceased. He professed Christ at an early age and gave his life to Christ. He attended F.W. Wheeler school in Wortham.

Ezzer Lean Tippen

The angelic hosts came for Mrs. Ezzer Lean Tippen, 76, on July 31, 2013 at Fairview Manor in Fairfield, among devoted family and friends. A viewing will be held at Moore’s Angelic Funeral Home on Friday, Aug. 9, from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 10, at 11 a.m. in True Vine DOXA Center, 917 S. Fairway in Fairfield. Rev. Michael Daniels, pastor, will be the eulogist and Rev. James Green Jr., pastor of Inspiring Word Christian Center, will serve as officiant.

Ezzer Lean was born Oct. 12, 1936 in Butler, the first child of Napolean and Lonnie Lee Henderson. She grew up in Butler and she attended Butler Public Schools. She was baptized in the Union United Church in Butler. She later met and married Dan Tippen Jr.

Mrs. Tippen was personal cook for Sonny Sessions during the coon-hunting season for 25 years. Later she worked in home health care.
