PSALM 118:17 - I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.

FIRST AMENDMENT QUOTE: “Speech is civilization itself. The word, even the most contradictory word, preserves content - it is silence which isolates” - Thomas MANN, German writer, 1924.

We hope, and are planning for a “photo series,” as time permits, revealing the good points, and the not so good of Mexia. Positive pictures, like new building going on, and some facilities which have been renovated, as citizens show their pride, will be among the good. The bad will include weeds and unsightly brush which have been allowed, unattended, to grow in areas which could be cleaned up. When clean, it leaves a better impression on visitors to Mexia. On the other side of the coin, there have been unsolicited comments of visitors, comments which really hurt. We couldn’t argue, because they are right in their assessments of certain situations. I feel as if the powers-that-be will use every avenue, such as ordinances, etc., to alleviate some of the “bad stuff.”

No pulse. Two officers, Corporal Clint FISHER of Mexia, and a Captain Knight, both work for the Baylor Police Department. They administered CPR, which resulted in the woman’s starting to breath again. She is okay today, thanks to the work of these officers. Fisher is a former member of the Mexia Police Department...

Maggi FOCKE of College Station writes in response to my “conservative” writing in a recent column. “Since you wrote...that column...Big Brother has started asking neighbors to report on information ‘unfriendly and fishy’ to the current White House administration’s opinion. You are probably on ‘the list’,” says Maggi. We appreciate and folks like her who respond to these things...

The death last week of Avery McKINNEY, a master carpenter, certainly brought back memories when he was the lead carpenter in building our home on East Glendale. Avery on that project worked with the late Frank BEYER and the late Noil VINSON of Tehuacana. During a deer season while the house was under construction, those guys took off a few days. Avery was an avid hunter, and he wasn’t about to miss deer season. We were saddened by his death. Avery was 96 years young. Prayers are with his family...

A couple of former Black Cat football coaches patrolled the sidelines Friday night. Chuck CASKEY is an assistant coach at Bremond. Jack ESTES is defensive coordinator at Round Rock McNeil. Both were on Norman COBB’s staff in Mexia...
