Selling Heart of Texas Fair and Rodeo tickets as a fundraiser by the Limestone County Go-Texan Committee means one thing.
The Cajun fried turkeys can’t be far behind.
Listen up, now. Here’s the deal. The Go-Texan Committee is selling the Fair/Rodeo tickets for $3 per ticket. That’s a real deal!!! The HOT Fair and Rodeo is scheduled for Oct. 3-17. By purchasing your Fair-Rodeo tickets early, you not only help the Go-Texan organization, but you save money on what it would normally cost to enter the Coliseum in Waco for top-notch rodeo action, but also for well-known entertainers at these shows, reminds Bill Ward, a Go-Texan from Coolidge.    The entertainment lineup is sure to be a crowd pleaser, says Nikki Forrest of Tranquility Spa. She’s also a member whom you may call at (254) 472-0255 for information and/or ticket purchases. Two other numbers for the same “info” and to secure your tickets: Amanda Smith at (254) 562-4010, and Ward at (254) 747-0991.
The entertainment lineup includes Tracy Laurence, Aaron Watson, Kevin Fowler and Jerry Harris, a master hypnotist - “guaranteed to be fun for the whole family,” says Amanda Smith.
With their tickets sold, the Limestone Go-Texan organization will be able to give scholarships to deserving Limestone high school students. Being able to dispense these scholarships every year is a “big thing” for the Go-Texans. “We’re happy to give out annual scholarships, since this helps students to further their educations,” a spokesperson emphasizes.
Now, about those turkeys - The Go-Texan Committee also gains much of their money for scholarships through orders for Cajun fried turkeys, just in time for Thanksgiving meals. The turkeys are fried and otherwise prepared for sale at the Mexia High School Agriculture Shop. The cooking commences on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving Day. “More details will follow later,” reminds Bill Ward. “And, be aware that all proceeds go to our Youth Scholarships program, strictly in Limestone County,” he concluded.
