A weapon used in the shooting of a Mexia man on Sept. 9, is being sought at Lake Mexia.
Dive teams hit the lake water Tuesday. No reports have surfaced as to whether or not the weapon was found.
Reginald Hatton, a 36-year-old black male, has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. This was in connection with a pre-dawn domestic disturbance at the Town House Apartments, apartment No. 4, at 106 South Kaufman Street.
Darrel Collins, a white male, 42, was shot once in the lower jaw. Also in the residence at the time of the shooting was Kathy Collins, 36-year-old black female. Police at the time of the investigation, said Collins and his wife “had been involved in a disturbance.”
The suspect, Hatton, resided at 301 South Kaufman and was arrested at his residence soon after the shooting, said Mexia Police Chief Richard Hawthorne.
Hatton has been in the Limestone County Law Enforcement Center (county jail) at Groesbeck.    Collins was flown by helicopter to Hillcrest Hospital-Waco, where he had been in critical condition.
