Credit by Exam coming!!
    Mexia ISD will offer at no cost for students, grades K-12, Credit by Examination tests with no prior instruction on  Nov.  2nd  -  Nov. 6th, 2009.  In grades K-5, the student must score 90% or higher on the language arts, math, science, and social studies tests.  Students in grades 6-12 must score a 90% or higher on each test he/she attempts to master.  A written request from the parent(s) or guardian(s) must be in the child’s
campus office no later than 3:00 p.m. on Monday, October 5th, 2009.  These forms along with further information are available from the student’s principal or the administration office.

LARAS’ House Sets Saturday Pet Adoptathon
    The monthly Pet Adoptathon by LARAS’ House (Limestone Animal Rescue & Adoption Shelter will be held this Saturday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on the parking lot of Sassy Sisters in Mexia. Sassy Sisters is located at 821 E. Milam. The cost of an adoption is $80.00. That includes taking care of the animal’s shots and spaying or neutering. LARAS’ House will not allow a dog or cat to be adopted without arrangements being made for it to be fixed at the time or when the animal is old enough to be fixed later. Wortham church’s fall festival Saturday
    WORTHAM - First United Methodist Church will take the wraps off its annual Fall Festival and Barbecue this Saturday evening from 5 until 7 p.m. A cake auction and country store is also a part of the day’s festivities. A more comprehensive story coming in Saturday’s edition, Page 1.

MD drive set for Saturday
    Once again, this Saturday is Coach to Cure MD www.coachtocuremd.org. Sam, the great-grandson of J.B. (Bug) and Joan Paschal of Mexia has Duchene Muscular Dystrophy, and his father, Kris Paschal and wife Laurie have worked very hard to get this program up and running. Last year, The News published a letter from Laurie. Go to the website for better explanation. The coaches are asking everyone to text $5. The group is trying to determine which college team can raise the most money for DMD.

No tickets from West!!!
    The West Independent School District does not do advance ticket sales of its football games. All ticket must be purchased at the gate of Trojan Stadium. Tickets are $5 each and must be purchased there this Friday night for the West-Mexia game. This word came from Mexia Independent School District on Monday morning.   
   
Fairoaks Reunion near!!!
    Fairoaks ex-students and other friends are gearing up for the community’s Reunion event, coming this Saturday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the Shiloh Community Center. A meal will be served for $7 a person. You may pay at the door.
    This year’s reunion meal will be smoked turkey and ham. Beans, potato salad and green salad will be provided, say Don and Linda Morton. Attendees will bring pot luck dishes and dessert items. Condiments, utensils and drinks will also be provided for those attending. “Bring door prizes if you want,” say the Mortons.
   
Tehuacana film scheduled
    The DVD shown at the recent Citizens Concerned for the Constitution, will be shown twice this Saturday at Tehuacana - at 2 and 6 p.m. in Texas Hall of the Trinity Institute. The film revolves around efforts to “preserve our Constitution,” in view of recent moves by the Administration to get away from constitutional law, under which our great nation was established. All but two signers of the Constitution were known to be strong Christians, a spokesperson, Mildred Monk, said.
   
Gospel meeting scheduled
    A Gospel meeting will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights at 7 o’clock, and on Sunday morning at 10:30 at McKinney Street Church of Christ. Lance Spradlin will be the speaker. Refreshments will be served following the services on Friday and Saturday nights.
               
Night of Gospel Music!!!
    At least one Limestone County Gospel singer is on the Saturday night program, a Night of Gospel Music, to be presented at Trinity Memorial Baptist Church, FM 2308 (Lakeview Drive) in Marlin. The Gospel music program will be from 6 until 8 o’clock. Among those on the program is Groesbeck’s Phil Koester. Others to sing are J.H. Hahn, Mickey Chitwood, Kenneth Crocker, Lew Smith and Lori Battles.   
   
The Manor ‘Fashion Show’
    Manor Healthcare residents will give their presentation of a “Sloppy” Fashion Show this coming Saturday afternoon at 2:30. Families, friends and community are invited to attend this afternoon of fashion, fun and laughs as residents show off their “stylish” attire.
    Refreshments will be served after the show. Prizes will be awarded to the top three models who “stand out” in their original designs.
