Current Acting Postmaster in the Mexia office is Greg NORS, who is also the Postmaster at West. We’ll miss Cheryl, but welcome Greg, as the Postmaster position is in the process of being posted for the Mexia Post Office...

This Friday, Curves, 311 East Milam Street, will have a bake sale to raise money for the battle against Multiple Sclerosis. Proceeds will be donated to the Walk MS: Austin Walk 2009, toward research for a cure to MS. The local ladies at Curves remind you can help in various ways, including purchasing baked goods, or through cash donations on the day of the bake sale. “Please join us in our efforts to support the research for curing MS,” say your girlfriends at Curves of Mexia...

Folks continue to call me, concerning information they’ve received through the mail, many containing checks. Don’t attempt to deposit those “big-money” checks. It’s all a part of scams which continue to sweep the country, in efforts to bilk people out of their savings. Particularly is this true of the elderly, who become easy targets. Be aware. If you receive what appears to be something free, it’s not. The scams will continue. It’s up to all of us to play smart, and don’t fall for something which you’ll regret...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY this month to Tiny (Frances) LENAMON, former Mexiaite now residing in the Austin area. Frances will soon observe her 90th birthday and was a longtime member of the church we attend...

The little ones in Sunday School classes can certainly put their own spins onto what they learn. The lesson was about Lot’s wife one recent Sunday. The Sunday School teacher was describing how Lot’s wife looked back and turned into a pillar of salt, when a boy child interrupted, “My Mommy looked back once while she was driving,” he announced triumphantly, “and she turned into a parked car!”
