The San Antonio pageant is held annually to select the Princess rodeo queen to represent the state of Texas. Kelsey, entering the competition as Miss Rodeo SandHills Princess, was “shocked to hear my name as the winner! All of the girls were so good and the competition was tough! It was truly an amazing night that I will never forget! One of my goals as Miss Rodeo Texas Princess is to show all little girls that being MRTP is within their grasp if they just reach for it. I think that if you can ride and have a love for rodeo that you can represent our state whether you rodeo or not.”
The smart and articulate Miss Rodeo Texas Princess is coming to Mexia in early December as a special guest at the Miss Mistletoe Pageant, part of the activities to launch the city’s Christmas season.
Miss Hickok, when she was crowned in San Antonio, received a $500 cash scholarship, a trophy saddle, trophy belt buckle, jewelry, mohair jacket, and several other prizes.
Kelsey is attending Crawford Middle School’s eighth grade where she is a member of the pep squad, cheerleader, volleyball, basketball and track teams, UIL Prose, Poetry and Ready Writing, band and FFA. She is a member of the Crawford Saddle Club, the American Softball Association and the Texas Junior Livestock Association.
The new Miss Rodeo Texas Princess participates in numerous rodeo and horse show activities. Kelsey has competed in the past in The McLennan County Junior FFA Horsemanship in poles, barrels, Western pleasure and halter competition.
Miss Hickok will be representing the Lone Star state of Texas in numerous rodeos and community events serving as a goodwill ambassador and spokesperson for Texas Western heritage and specifically the sport of rodeo. She said, “the Miss Rodeo Texas Princess pageant has taught me how to speak in front of people with confidence, how to interview, model and meet new people. All of which I will be using for the rest of my life! I look forward to sharing what MRTP did for me with others so they can achieve their goals!”
A special thanks to Kelsey’s family, her parents, Ray and Lana Hickok (a former Miss Rodeo Texas), friends and sponsors for their superb support of a special young Texas girl who will wear the crown and banner of Miss Rodeo Texas Princess 2009. Kelsey said, “I finally understand the sparkle in all of the MRTP’s eyes that I have met! I would like to thank my parents, family and very special friends that helped my eyes have that MRTP sparkle! Thanks to my family at the SandHills Stock Show and Rodeo, Wardlaw Claims Service, Barsh Construction, Bar None Feed Store, Standard Hats, the Tomchesson’s, the Smith’s and Lisa Simpkins for all your wonderful support!”
