Mexia again aided their opponents' efforts by spotting them eight points before their first bucket. Shooting around 26% from the field didn't help their cause.
"We just shot so terrible," said Mexia head coach Randy Barger. "I think we went only made 12 for 46 or 47 shots for the night. You're not going to beat a good team shooting like that."
The Ladycats then outscored Robinson 21-9 to take a 21-17 lead with 3:30 left in the second period. Freshmen Ariel Ballard, Ashley Johnson and Amy Johnson combined for 13 points to lead the charge.
Robinson closed out the half on an 8-2 run to take a 25-23 lead into the locker room.
The Rockettes post players controlled the paint on both ends in the second half, forcing Mexia to shoot mostly from the outside. 6'4" post Rachel Hargis scored the first five points of the third quarter on a put back and 3-4 free throws to give Robinson a 30-23 cushion with 5:12 left in the quarter.
"Their big girl only scored four buckets, but she also scored six free throws," added Barger. "I think that's going to be as well as we can do against her."
A huge three-pointer by Mexia's Amy Johnson and a steal for a layup by Ariel Ballard cut the Robinson lead to one possession, 32-29, but that was as close as the score would get.
