Letter to the Editor for 04-04

Dear Bob:

What a wonderful “Special Edition” you, your staff, and guest writers put together! I remembered so many of the places, like the Confederate Reunion Grounds. When I was a child, my family would visit this wonderful recreation place. And, in the summer, people would camp out for days so they would be there for all of the activities. Also, the large, round Pavilion where people would gather to visit and dance. I remember years later, the Pure Oil Co. employees built another dance hall down by the river, and I would attend it with some of my older sisters.

It was also interesting seeing pictures and reading about the old business places that were flourishing in downtown Mexia many years ago, It brought back so many wonderful memories that I remember from childhood until grown. I realize to put together such an enormous project as this, takes a lot of time, effort and dedication on those preparing this “special”. And, I just wanted to take the time and let you, your staff, and guest writers know that I thoroughly enjoyed reading about yesteryear. A GREAT job well done !
